PHYSIOTHERAPY
What Is Physiotherapy Laser Therapy?

Physiotherapy laser therapy is the use of a Class IV laser in your plan of care.
WIN Health Performance Centre in Niagara Falls utilizes Class IV laser therapy and our WIN Physiotherapists are professionally trained in laser therapy techniques.
Laser therapy produces remedial effects by using specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared). These light waves will stimulate various processes within the body in an attempt to alleviate pain, swelling, and can allow an increase in range of motion.

OVERCOME YOUR PAIN & INJURY
There are many benefits to incorporating laser therapy to your physiotherapy treatment plan.
Laser therapy is non-invasive and a pain free treatment. It has a strong anti-inflammatory effect which can lead to a decrease in pain as well as swelling.

WHAT IS LASER THERAPY?
You will be assessed by your WIN Physiotherapist to determine if laser therapy is the right choice for your injury, and that you are able to safely receive treatment.
They will make sure you are wearing protective eye glasses and decide on time and intensity. The laser does not touch the skin, but will come close to it and the wand will be moved in vertical and horizontal motions across the area of injury. You may feel gentle heat during your session around the area(s) being treated.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Laser therapy can help you in many ways. When you incorporate physiotherapy laser therapy, it can help speed your recovery time. It can also help decrease your need for pain medication. During a therapy session, you will feel a soothing warmth/heat to your area of concern. If you are a good candidate for treatment, it can be an excellent addition to your physiotherapy treatment plan.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BE HELPED?
You can use laser therapy for both new and old injuries. If it’s a recent concern or a lingering issue, laser can be added as a treatment option during your physiotherapy visit.
If you suffer with joint pain and stiffness, muscle injury/soreness, or arthritis, physiotherapy laser therapy can be a beneficial treatment. It can also help to increase blood circulation to the affected area, aiding in recovery time.
IS LASER THERAPY SAFE?
When laser therapy is offered by a professionally trained health care provider it is safe.
Your WIN Physiotherapist will take a complete history and assess any reasons why laser therapy may or may not be right for you.
Prior to incorporating it into your treatment plan, your WIN Physiotherapist will ensure you understand what laser therapy is, go over any risks and benefits with you prior to starting, and provide safety eye protection to be worn during your therapy session.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED LASER THERAPY?
The frequency of your visits and how often you need physiotherapy laser therapy really does come down to you – your health concern, your individualized plan and your overall state of health. Your WIN Physiotherapist will always assess your need with each visit and will share with you the treatment plan so you understand how often you will benefit from physiotherapy laser therapy treatments.
